Patricia Sandberg is doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer in June with her son. This is the 3rd year that her family has participated in the Ride. This week, following some fun in the sun down south, she was back on her bike and yesterday she did a 55 km ride. And more exciting, with another donation today, she has now raised over $8,900 - just over $1000 short of her goal of $10,000.

The Ride To Conquer Cancer is a two-day, 250 km ride from Vancouver to Seattle. 2500 people setting out on their bikes, with the yellow flags of cancer survivors bobbing in their midst, all with their individual reasons for doing the Ride but all with one goal - to beat cancer. The emotional impact of this event is huge, the financial impact is even larger. Last year over $9 million was raised for cancer research and patient support in BC. Hopefully this year it will be even bigger.

Revamp!

Well it has been almost a year since we started our website and experience has taught us that a few changes would improve the usefulness of the website. So! Here is the restructured, slimmed down, but oh so friendly version of our previous site. And even better, over the course of the next week, we will be adding many new products because we have been on a buying spree. We will be able to pass on to you some of the great bargains we have found while still maintaining the quality and style that you have come to expect from us. Hope you come back often! Dress for Success Event

Great turnout at the Impact Event last night for Dress for Success. Very tasty appetizers served by the Vancouver Club, vodka tasting (sadly not by me - designated driver), an inspiring speech, and silent and live auction items including one of Bells On Toes gorgeous silver bracelets. And best of all, all the funds went to support women returning to the work force.

In our December 9th blog, we invited you to purchase our handbags following which we would make a donation to women's shelters. We are pleased to say that half of the proceeds received has been donated to a lower mainland women's shelter. In addition, Bells on Toes donated 21 handbags and clutches to Dress for Success, an incredible organization that assists women to enter or return to the workforce by providing clothing and other support. We are resting our weary feet and sore backs but excited at having had a great show and a chance to meet many new people. Thanks to all our new and returning customers! Many of our items in the show were not on our website. It will take a bit of time to load up these and some new inventory on our website but, in the meantime, look for some great sales on our existing inventory in the next week. Today is Gear Up day for the BC Ride to Conquer Cancer. The purpose is to create awareness and interest in the 2011 ride. As you will gather if you have spent any time on this website, the Ride to Conquer Cancer is a passion of mine. So many of our friends and members of our family have been impacted by this terrible disease and today I am so pleased that my son has joined me for the Ride. Together, we are team "Dream Big" and our goal is to raise $15,000 in the fight against cancer.
Bells on Toes will discount any handbag or piece of jewelry by 15% if you make a donation to my ride. There is something for absolutely everyone this fall. Short skirts, long skirts, pencil skirts, full skirts. Stilettos, princess heels. Muted colours, jewel tones. Classic and simple to military. Over-the-knee boots, booties. Leggings, knee highs, ankle socks (personally, I just don't get the ankle socks).
I love the layering this fall. Lots of cosy warm sweaters draping over tees, over leggings. Had to buy over-the-knee boots. Lots of the muted fall tones, greys, taupes, browns and blacks of course, with mustard, carnelian red and teal for punch. My wallet has taken a big hit but it was worth it.

Huge thanks to all my family, friends and neighbours who gave so generously of their household items, time and money to make the garage sale held yesterday in support of the Ride to Conquer Cancer a huge success.

The weather forecast was for rain, but the sun came out and we had hundreds of people attend. A total of $2802 was raised, all of which goes to the BC Cancer Foundation.

Yesterday I also went to the Celebration of Life for a courageous 20 year old who, after battling leukemia since the age of 4, finally succumbed to the disease this past week. The service in her honour was filled with with hundreds of grieving family and friends. Despite the sadness, the service was also tremendously inspirational. Jillian never let cancer run her life but instead she lived to the fullest. She was full of laughter and smiles no matter how difficult her personal struggle, deeply compassionate and charitable, and a positive example for all around her. I came away struck by how much she accomplished and how many people she touched in her too short time.
