Peru, the people, the place
Peru is a magical place, with very friendly people, and we have a very special love for this country. The first designer and maker of jewelry that we met in Cusco is Romulo, a very talented and proud Quechuan. The Quechua culture predates the Incan culture by a thousand or more years and Quechuans are a very spiritual people. Romulo's spirituality plays a big role in his silvermaking. His gracious wife Mina works every day, from morning to night, running their small store where she sells various handicrafts including her own handknitted scarves and sweaters. You can see Romulo's necklaces on our website.
While the economies of some countries in South America have improved, many people still live at or below the poverty line. In particular, the indigenous people live day to day, working long hours to put food on their families' tables. We are pleased to be working with these and other groups, paying fair prices for their labour and helping them support their families.
